Why I Give to WT
"The person we become begins with our education. At WT, we learned the importance of respecting our teachers, our elders, and each other, and in my interactions with WT students, I'm glad to see that the school's philosophy remains firmly intact. Winchester Thurston has had a tremendous impact on my life; I see it as my personal responsibility to pass the WT legacy of learning onto current and future WT students, and I wholeheartedly encourage others to join me in this worthwhile venture. Donating to the school is a great opportunity to financially strengthen WT as an exceptional institution of learning."

"Through our experience as parents, Amy and I recognize that children learn differently. We value how Winchester Thurston provides personalized attention to each student and offers a flexible learning environment so that every WT student can achieve in ways that meet their individual learning needs. We feel that we must give something back to the institution that is educating our children not only for them, but for future WT students and our community as a whole."

I'm absolutely certain that I became the person I am today, to a great degree, because of my six years at Winchester Thurston. At WT I developed as a young woman in an environment that fostered both independence and independent thinking. I developed the ability to challenge the status quo and to not accept things just because that's the way they were. WT taught me to be assertive and unafraid. My mother used to say that at WT, I learned how to learn. I say that at WT I came to crave learning. As I moved through college, grad school, and my career, I was often a lone female in a male-dominated and very new (30 years ago) world of IT; WT was subtly but assuredly there. As an "executive-for-hire" working with a number of entrepreneurial, high tech firms, I am thrilled with what I do and am forever grateful for the foundation I gained at WT.

I believe that one of the most important things that we can teach our students at Winchester Thurston is that education is not something that only occurs within the confines of our school building. As an educator it is one of my privileges to show students that education is a process that goes on constantly and throughout our lives. I have been excited by the opportunities that WT has given me as a teacher not only to take students on trips and educational experiences outside the classroom but also to financially support my participation in professional development opportunities to broaden my horizons. I feel that by supporting the WT Fund, I am showing in a small way my gratitude for the opportunities that WT has given me and our students.
